Nobel laureate Sir Richard J. Roberts met with Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, president-elect of the Iranian opposition coalition National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) while visiting the People’s Mojahedin of Iran (PMOI/MEK) in Ashraf-3, Albania. Sir Roberts, is a molecular biologist and biochemist from the United Kingdom who won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for discovering the mechanism of gene splicing and introns in eukaryotic DNA. Over the past 30 years, Professor Roberts has been the Nobel laureate who has been most active in promoting human rights issues. He has supported significant declarations in support of freedom and human rights on numerous occasions.

He sponsored a letter to the UN Secretary-General during the Iranian uprising of 2009 that denounced the Iranian regime’s bloody suppression of millions of protesters. The French News Agency reported the statement’s endorsement by 44 Nobel laureates.

“What I have done pales in comparison to the efforts that you have made, the courage that you have displayed, your firm defense of freedom, and your desire to establish a true democracy in Iran,” Sir Roberts said in his humble remarks following his emotional experience at the Iranian Resistance Museum, where he learned more about the crimes of Iran’s ruling mullahs’ regime.

"You have stood up 22 times in support of Iran's freedom fighters and the Iranian people's protests since the first attack," Mrs. Rajavi said.

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi welcomed Sir Roberts to Ashraf 3 and praised the professor’s strong support for the Iranian Resistance, particularly during difficult times.

“We and the Iranian people will remember this visit because of your distinguished scientific career, your support for the Iranian people’s uprisings for freedom, and especially because of your sincere and heartfelt defense of the MEK in Ashraf and Camp Liberty during the seven years, from 2009 to 2016, in which 150 MEK members were killed and nearly 1,500 were injured in seven bloodbaths.” “You have stood up 22 times in support of Iran’s freedom fighters and the Iranian people’s protests since the first attack,” Mrs. Rajavi said.

“In July 2021, you and a dozen of your colleagues wrote to the UN Secretary-General, requesting the establishment of a fact-finding mission to investigate the 1988 massacre of political prisoners.” You emphasized the role of the regime’s president, Ebrahim Raisi, in committing crimes against humanity in this letter. “Your assistance in the Iranian people’s struggle for freedom is invaluable,” the NCRI President-elect said, emphasizing Sir Roberts’ powerful and effective activities.

Mrs. Rajavi continued, “Today, Iran holds the world record for brain drain.” “In the last three years alone, approximately 4,000 doctors and 300,000 specialists with master’s and doctorate degrees have left Iran, including 900 university professors.”

“Universities and students are still subject to severe repression and control even today.” Many university professors are impoverished. Tens of thousands of students and teachers have been executed by the regime. Teachers are currently imprisoned solely for protesting their pitiful salaries,” Mrs. Rajavi continued, recalling the bloody history of the Khomeini regime’s crackdown on students and universities.

“The mullahs impose on the people the reactionary laws of previous millennia to govern society, including those related to legal and judicial matters.” However, they use the most recent scientific and technological advances to maintain their decadent rule and to develop atomic bombs and missiles.”

“Our Resistance has been subjected to a demonization campaign for years in order to force it to abandon its beliefs and positions and accept that freedom will never come.

" But we have pledged to make freedom flourish throughout Iran with our body and soul! "I believe it is our shared belief that no force in the world can halt the progress of science and freedom," concluded the NCRI President-elect.
