In a poignant address to the Iranian American community in Washington, DC, on March 9, retired General Wesley Clark, former Supreme Allied Commander Europe of NATO, voiced a compelling argument for regime change in Iran.

The gathering, aimed at honoring International Women’s Day, became a platform for discussing broader issues facing Iran, including the call for an end to the current regime’s oppressive policies.

General Clark criticized the Western policy of appeasement towards Iran, which he believes has only emboldened the regime’s aggressive behavior on a global scale. According to Clark, Iran’s government has extended its reach through networks involved in assassinations, terror, smuggling, and other criminal activities worldwide.

Highlighting a potential solution, Clark expressed strong support for the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) and the People’s Mojahedin of Iran (PMOI/MEK). He praised their courage, determination, and resilience, emphasizing their critical role in striving for the regime’s downfall. “The National Council of Resistance of Iran and the People’s Mojahedin of Iran possess a network inside Iran that has proven its staying power, determination, courage, and will overthrow the regime throughout the years,” Clark stated.

The General’s speech shed light on the harsh realities faced by Iranians under the current regime. He recounted the regime’s history of violence and suppression, particularly against those who dare to oppose it. “For four decades, the Ayatollahs have waged war, sparked conflict, and terrorized their own people,” Clark remarked, underscoring the urgency of bringing about change.

Clark also addressed the international community’s role, criticizing the ineffective approach of appeasement and calling for a firmer stance against the Iranian regime. He suggested that the regime’s days are numbered and that concerted efforts could lead to its end. “The regime in Iran is on its last legs. Isn’t it time to finish it off?” he questioned, highlighting the strategic importance of supporting internal resistance movements like the NCRI and PMOI/MEK.

The General’s impassioned plea for action resonated with many, emphasizing the critical need for a united front against the regime’s tyranny. “We can no longer afford to temporize, dawdle, appease, and hope in dealing with this regime,” he stated, advocating for decisive actions to support Iran’s citizens in their quest for freedom and democracy.

As tensions continue to escalate in the Middle East, General Wesley Clark’s call for regime change in Iran underscores the international community’s growing concern over the country’s oppressive government. His advocacy for the NCRI and PMOI/MEK highlights the potential for internal movements to initiate significant political transformation, offering hope for a future where Iran can embrace democracy and human rights.
