In a recent revelation by Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh, a member of the regime’s so-called reformist faction, over 20 new taxes and fees have been introduced, creating an unprecedented burden on the populace.
This oppressive tax regime has sparked a silent yet resolute struggle among the Iranian people, who are employing various stratagems to evade the reach of what many perceive as one of Iran’s most corrupt regimes in modern history. The battle involves individuals seeking ways to conduct essential transactions without succumbing to the regime’s tax machinations.
Reports suggest a clandestine tactic employed by citizens involves conducting transactions through direct card-to-card transfers instead of utilizing ATMs, as dealing predominantly in cash becomes a means to evade the regime’s tax net. In response, regime-affiliated banks, with government support, are attempting to minimize cash circulation, encouraging card-based transactions and ATM usage to facilitate tax collection. Unconventional tax collection methods, such as scrutinizing accounts with transactions exceeding declared amounts, further aggravate the situation.
The Iranian government rationalizes these measures as necessary in the face of economic challenges, including dwindling oil revenues and soaring inflation. However, the populace bears the brunt as heightened taxation, coupled with rising living costs, exerts immense pressure on various segments of society.
Unlike advanced nations where taxation is balanced with robust public services, the Iranian regime fails to provide commensurate benefits. Domestic mismanagement and international isolation have stagnated Iran’s once-thriving production sector, exacerbating poverty and unemployment.

As taxation continues to escalate, the burden on Iranians becomes unbearable, with inflation soaring and prices skyrocketing. The specter of bankruptcy looms over small and medium enterprises, further exacerbating unemployment and economic distress. In essence, the Iranian people find themselves trapped in a vicious cycle of taxation and economic hardship, underscoring the urgent need for substantive reform and relief.
