Iranian regime is exerting increased pressure on political prisoners, including the 70-year-old Ali Moezi, who is being denied critical medical care.

Moezi, a staunch supporter of the People’s Mojahedin of Iran (PMOI/MEK), is currently held in the infamous Evin Prison’s 4th ward, and has a history of enduring the regime’s prisons for his political beliefs.

Moezi’s recent arrest in September 2022 coincided with the nationwide uprisings in Iran. Despite having undergone cancer surgery shortly before his detention, the regime has persistently refused him access to necessary medical treatment. In a move to further torment and humiliate him, the authorities have conditioned his transfer to a hospital on the acceptance of wearing prison clothes, a demand Moezi has courageously defied.

The regime has levied a series of unfounded allegations against Moezi. On August 6, 2023, he was sentenced to six years and three months in prison by criminal judge Abolghassem Salavati, known for his human rights violations. The charges, shockingly including “upholding his beliefs” and “issuing a statement against the regime,” highlight the extent of the regime’s repression.

The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) has raised serious concerns regarding Moezi’s situation. They hold the regime and Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei responsible for his well-being and have urged the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran, along with other human rights organizations, to urgently intervene for his access to medical care.

This crackdown extends beyond Moezi. The regime has targeted other political prisoners and PMOI affiliates. On December 2, the judiciary sentenced Zahra Safaei, her children, and Kamran Rezaei-Far to five-year prison terms on charges related to their association with the PMOI and alleged undermining of national security. Similarly, Maysam Dehbanzadeh was recently transferred to Evin Prison to serve a six-year sentence, facing restrictive measures including a ban from residing in Tehran and abroad travel.

The regime’s actions reflect its growing fear of the PMOI and the Iranian Resistance, particularly in light of the intensifying calls for regime change since the 2022 uprising.Despite these oppressive measures, the Iranian people’s determination for freedom continues to gain momentum. The regime’s heightened repression is a testament to the growing strength of the Iranian Resistance and the unyielding spirit of the Iranian people in their pursuit of liberty and justice.

In a desperate attempt to quell the rising tide of dissent, the regime is not only pressuring political prisoners but has also initiated a sham trial against 104 PMOI and NCRI members. This trial is widely publicized to instill fear among the youth and deter them from joining the Resistance Units, a network of activists supporting the PMOI.
