This brave woman, a member of Tehran’s Lawyers’ Guild with license number 31997, was a notable figure in her home city of Mashhad.
Her advocacy took on heightened prominence after the cruel murder of Mahsa Amini. Fard was fervently involved in the ensuing protests, showcasing her staunch commitment to justice. Amidst the 2022-2023 Iran uprising, she stood fearlessly in defense of countless young individuals arrested or abducted, despite facing numerous threats and interrogations.
However, Fard’s commitment to justice came at a high cost. In mid-November 2022, she was abducted on Daneshjou Avenue in Mashhad. Reports surfaced on social media, indicating that she was subjected to brutal torture and poisoning.
She was with no identification or phones present on her, the authorities conveniently avoided having to account for her death. The Khorrami Fard family rushed Narges to Nazeran Hospital, where a person impersonating a doctor assured them of her stable condition and suggested they return in the morning. Two unknown men dressed as nurses later entered her room and administered an injection which ultimately led to her demise.
The hospital was surrounded by security forces and vehicles belonging to the Special Guards Unit, creating an atmosphere of intimidation. The family was explicitly threatened to remain silent about Narges’ death.
Narges was laid to rest on December 2, 2022, at Behesht-e Reza Cemetery. Before her burial, her family witnessed the visible scars and bruises on her body, grim evidence of her horrific torture.
Despite her tragic end, her unwavering commitment to justice continues to inspire and shed light on the continued struggle for human rights and liberty in Iran.
