In his speech, Joseph Lieberman pointed out that the Iranian regime’s fear of these groups is visible in their extensive efforts to discredit the MEK through propaganda and fake news.

At the Free Iran 2023 World Summit, Joseph Lieberman, the former U.S. Senator and Vice Presidential candidate, stated that Iran’s ruling regime perceives the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), the People’s Mojahedin of Iran (PMOI/MEK), and the in-country resistance fighters as greater threats than any global government, including his own and those in Europe.

According to Lieberman, “They spend so much money attacking the NCRI and the MEK, money that could be better used to enhance the quality of life of the people in Iran.” The regime’s fear of the Iranian Resistance stems from its deep-rooted presence in Iran’s history and the struggle for freedom and democracy. The sacrifices made by MEK members throughout the years have forged the movement into an indestructible force, despite the regime’s numerous attempts to eliminate it.

The Iranian regime has long recognized the MEK and the organized resistance movement as their primary threat. Forty-three years ago, before its full-scale crackdown on the MEK, regime founder Ruhollah Khomeini stated, “Our enemy is not in the U.S., not in the USSR, not in Kurdistan, but right here in Tehran, in front of our eyes.”

Today, it is evident that the Iranian Resistance is more powerful than ever, while the regime is at its weakest. Former U.S. National Security Advisor, who also spoke at the Free Iran 2023 summit.

The Iranian regime has consistently attempted to skew the balance of power perception, employing deceitful tactics such as fake news and lobbying, in an effort to discredit the NCRI and the MEK. These maneuvers are fundamentally designed to maintain the regime’s power by cultivating the illusion that there is no alternative to the mullahs’ rule and that regime change in Iran is not feasible.

Recently, the regime threatened Italy due to a visit by NCRI president-elect Maryam Rajavi. However, the growing efforts of the Iranian regime prove futile as the people and their organized resistance movement continue to gain strength. This underscores the regime’s deep-rooted fear and highlights where the real change in Iran is likely to emanate from.
