Facing rising internal instability and mounting public support for the MEK and Resistance Units, Raisi-affiliated Iran newspaper sees the present predicament as an opportunity to weaken the domestic influence of the MEK.

Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, Speaker of Iran’s Parliament, referred to the MEK’s diminishing power during a statement given to Fars news agency, an IRGC affiliate, on June 24. His comments coincide with the recent developments in France and Albania, where authorities curtailed MEK activities.

The seizure of MEK documents and information servers is hailed as a “diplomatic success” by the Iran newspaper on June 25. The publication believes the confiscated materials will enable the Islamic Republic to intensify attacks against the MEK’s domestic network, which is allegedly behind the 2022 riots.

Similarly, Zohreh Lajevardi, a parliament member and daughter of Evin Butcher, noted a shift in Europe’s stance towards the MEK as evidence of the “dignified diplomacy” of Iran’s 13th government. She applauded Albania’s decision to grant police entry into the MEK headquarters and France’s ban on MEK’s annual gathering, highlighting the regime’s strategy to counter MEK’s influence both domestically and abroad.

In the same vein, Kayhan, Khamenei’s mouthpiece, argued that true acknowledgment of the MEK’s threat will only occur when the group is extradited to Iran for trial.

Parliament member Farhad Bashiri, alongside several Friday prayer imams, expressed similar sentiments, lauding European developments and calling for more severe consequences for MEK members. Their statements echo a common belief within the regime that the tide is turning against the MEK.

Mashreq newspaper quoted Kazem Gharibabadi, the regime's Deputy Justice, asserting that host countries must be held accountable for enabling the MEK.

The director-general of Justice of Isfahan province stated, “Every day, we witness new conquests in diplomacy. Dissenters must either flee, hide, or, by the will of God, fly and face the consequences as the people hold them accountable”.

The intensified rhetoric against the MEK signifies the regime’s growing concern over the opposition group’s influence and their determination to quell any rising dissent within their borders.
