On February 13, the Friends of a Free Iran and Against Fundamentalism (FOFIAF) held an event at the Norwegian Parliament in support of the Iranian people’s uprising and organized Resistance.

The event was attended by several renowned Nordic politicians and lawmakers who issued a statement following the meeting. Representatives of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) and members of the Iranian community in Norway also attended the meeting.

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the NCRI President-elect, participated in the meeting online and stated that the era of religious despotism in Iran has ended. The Iranian people and the ruling regime and its suppressive forces, including the IRGC, are at odds with each other. Regardless of any ebbs and flows during the uprising, the situation will not return to the pre-uprising era. The NCRI seeks to establish a democratic republic based on free elections, the separation of religion and state, gender equality, rejection of any discrimination against followers of other religions, and the recognition of autonomy for the suppressed ethnicities in the framework of Iran’s territorial integrity.

Mr. Ola Elvestuen, a Member of Parliament from the Liberal Party (Venstre) and former Minister of Climate and the Environment, who moderated the meeting, emphasized that there must be a change in past policies and thinking. He stated that the only goal is to have a free and democratic Iran and that the opposition must be supported in the same way and with the same wording as the very brave Ukrainians fighting against Russian attacks. He further stated that the opposition must be supported until they succeed.

Mr. Christian Tybring-Gjedde, a Member of Parliament from the Progress Party (FrP), and, Mr. Lars Rise, a former Member of Parliament, supported the 10-point plan of Mrs. Rajavi as a way forward for a free and democratic Iran.

Mr. Christian Tybring-Gjedde, a Member of Parliament from the Progress Party (FrP), supported the 10-point democratic platform of Mrs. Rajavi as a way forward for a free and democratic Iran. Mr. Lars Rise, a former Member of Parliament, stated that there is now a civil society and a very organized opposition in the NCRI, which is our best ally. He further emphasized that the 10-point plan is the same as the values of the European Convention on Human Rights, which is what we all can embrace.

Mr. Morten Wold, a Member of Parliament from the Progress Party (FrP) and third Vice-President of Parliament, reiterated his long-time support for the Iranian Resistance and the Iranian people’s struggle to realize their democratic aspirations. Mr. Geir H. Haarde, former Prime Minister of Iceland, emphasized that the uprising going on in Iran must be taken seriously.

The statement issued by the Nordic Committee expresses solidarity with the Iranian people’s uprising and organized Resistance. It calls for support for the opposition until a free and democratic Iran is established.
