Excerpts From an Open Letter

(NCRI) and (PMOI / MEK Iran): People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI / MEK) in Ashraf 3 in Manza Directed at Albanian officials.

A shock report by The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), published on February 18th, offered more evidence of the Iranian regime’s diplomatic privileges being engaged in propaganda, espionage, and terrorism against members of the Iranian Resistance.

A letter was written to the United Nations

A letter was written to the United Nations Secretary-General by Hadi Sani-Khani, who used to be a member of the People’s Mujahedin of Iran (PMOI / MEK Iran), describing events that took place after he had left the MEK in Albania. He was instantly recruited by the Iranian regime’s embassy in Tirana and from then on playing the role of a pawn for the Iranian regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS). Sani-Khani sent a copy of the letter to the Security and Counterterrorism Committee of the NCRI.

He said in his letter that for 4 years he was snared in a trap created by the Iranian regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) and its Iranian embassy in Albania.”

After he left the MEK’s in 2016, Sani-Khani was approached by Ebrahim Khodabandeh, a renowned agent of the MOIS, and he was urged to visit the Iranian embassy in Tirana. Once there he was informed that he would have to cooperate with the regime against the (PMOI / MEK Iran) if he ever wished to return to Iran.

Disseminating propaganda

Intelligence agents based at the embassy used Sani-Khani and other agents recruited by the MOIS to write articles. The discussion points for the articles were provided by the embassy and MOIS agents like Ebrahim Khodabandeh and his brother Massoud, another well-known intelligence agent.

Sani-Khani’s letter said the discussion points provided by the embassy and MOIS about the MEK included the following:

  • torture of dissidents;
  • suspected killings within the PMOI;
  • lack of freedom in PMOI relations;
  • the killing of Kurds and Shiites in Iraq;
  • getting money from the United States, Israel, and Saudi Arabia;
  • forced divorces;
  • cutting ties with the outside world;
  • confessions about sexual topics and thoughts;

Demonization campaign, espionage, and terrorist plots

He said that for the 14 years he had been in the MEK he had never seen any evidence of this list of discussion points. The regime paid top dollar to get people to write articles on these discussion points so that lies about the MEK could be spread around the world.

According to Sani-Khani, the embassy had issued instructions to collect information about MEK members in Albania which included taking photos and videos of the locations they were staying.

Intelligence gathering

Sani-Khani said that in the spring of 2017 he was ordered by Zandi to collect information including videos and pictures from the different locations where the PMOI members lived. Zandi was given more than 300 pictures and several videos from the (PMOI / MEK Iran) locations. Zandi told Sani-Khani to find the place where Mrs. Maryam Rajavi and senior (PMOI / MEK Iran) officials lived and how many bodyguards were used to protect them.

In 2019, the Albanian police were able to provide more details about the Iranian regime’s terrorist network in Albania. In January 2020, the Albanian government removed two regime diplomats from the country for undermining the country’s security. This came not long after a Belgium court sentenced another Iranian diplomat to 20 years in prison for plotting to bomb an NCRI rally in France.

The facts are there to show that terrorism and murder are part of Iran’s foreign policy. The regime uses its diplomatic facilities and officials to organize the following:

  • arrange spy networks;
  • plot terror attacks;
  • influence public opinion in every country.
