Kaveh Lotfolah Afrasiabi, also known as Lotfolah Kaveh Afrasiabi, has been arrested in the United States for failing to disclose his links to the mullahs’ regime.
Mullah’s agent arrested in the US
The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) and The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI / MEK Iran) reported that the US Department of Justice announced his arrest, confirming that he was “acting and conspiring to act as an unregistered agent of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in violation of the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA)”.

Assistant Attorney General for National Security John C. Demers indicated that the defendant has been working as a “secret employee of the Government of Iran” for more than ten years, during which time he has been in touch with members of Congress, journalists, and the general public as a “neutral and objective expert on Iran”. He also emphasized that Afrasiabi has neglected, this whole time, to disclose “who was sponsoring his views”.
Acting US Attorney DuCharme emphasized that the US was holding Afrasiabi responsible for trying to influence not only the American public but also American policymakers for the benefit of the government of Iran, “his employers”, bypassing off propaganda as his own personal opinions and expertise as neutral analysis.
Afrasiabi falsely portrayed the MEK has no supports in Iran
The links between Afrasiabi and the regime show that the relationship has been going on for more than a decade. Photographs of Afrasiabi with regime officials prove the importance of the relationship as someone of no significance would not have got close enough.
In its propaganda efforts, the Iranian regime has focused on its main opposition – the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI / MEK Iran). Afrasiabi too has mentioned the opposition on countless occasions during his interviews and in his writings. He has falsely portrayed the opposition as a group with no following in Iran and has repeated the false allegation that the group is a terrorist organization.
It appears from information filed with the court that Afrasiabi contacted Iranian officials about “retaliation” for the successful U.S. drone strike operation that killed Iranian military commander Qassem Soleimani and Iraqi militia leader Abu Mahdi al Muhandis.#MEK #Iran pic.twitter.com/qP6J6DLcf9

MEK welcomed the news of Afrasiabi’s arrest
The (PMOI / MEK Iran) has been vilified many times over the years, but it has a huge following inside Iran and has growing support from the rest of the world. Its main objectives are to bring peace, freedom, and the respect of human rights to Iran. It is focused on supporting the people of Iran and exposing the regime’s deceptions, lies, and belligerent acts. The (PMOI / MEK Iran) clearly welcomes the news of Afrasiabi’s arrest.
End impunity against the mullahs’ agents and operatives
Deputy director of the National Council of Resistance of Iran’s (NCRI) Washington Office Alireza Jafarzadeh spoke to the Washington Examiner about the latest developments. He said that the Iranian regime has enjoyed impunity for several decades which has allowed it to further expand its activities. Mr. Jafarzadeh said that the Iranian regime has “an extensive network of agents and operatives” inside the United States that are breaking the law with regards to their activities.
This is indeed positive news that the United States is taking action against such individuals who are distorting the narrative of Iran. It is also one step in the right direction for the people of Iran that are fed up with their voices being silenced.
