The Revolutionary Guards (IRGC)

(IRGC) Should Be Disbanded: Shekarchi was asked to explain the ideological frontiers and he responded by saying that it was all about confronting the (PMOI / MEK Iran).

Iranian Resistance leader, Massoud Rajavi, called for the IRGC to be dismantled. The IRGC is the Iranian regime’s main tool of suppression and terrorism. Mr. Rajavi said that the IRGC’s budget and its assets must be used for the health of the people and to help relieve the burden of COVID-19 in Iran. Over 110,000 people have died of the coronavirus, according to reports by the Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK). The official death count declared by the regime stands at 25,394, around a fifth of the actual figure.

Following Mr. Rajavi’s demand to disband the IRGC, the mullahs’ regime had to act quickly to set up shows and interviews with IRGC commanders to show their positive side.

On September 21, Abolfazl Shekarchi, the senior spokesperson and the cultural and deputy of the staff of the regime’s armed forces, said on a state-run TV show when asked about the IRGC’s work that: “Defending the ideological frontiers of the Islamic Republic and the Islamic Revolution is not only the duty of all institutions, organs, and even the army but the ‘natural mission’ of the IRGC.” Shekarchi was asked to explain the ideological frontiers and he responded by saying that it was all about confronting the (PMOI / MEK Iran).

What should be made clear is that the IRGC has one goal only and that is to keep the mullahs in power, which means in reality suppressing any opposition both at home and abroad. As well as being responsible for acts of torture against Iranian dissidents at home, they also peddle anti-MEK propaganda overseas.

Public outrage leveled at the IRGC

The protests in recent years have chanted several slogans, including: “No to Gaza, No to Lebanon, I give my life for Iran,” “Let off Syria and think about us. This is all about the IRGC’s destructive and costly meddling in the countries of the region, which is all being paid straight out of the pockets of the Iranian people.’’

Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh, MP from Kermanshah and member of the Majlis Security Commission, said “When I went to Syria, some complained that I had caused expenses, but I will say this again: We may have given $20-30 billion to Syria. The money of these people was spent there.” Despite all this money being paid abroad, some health workers have not yet been paid their small salaries and the funding of the COVID-19 response has been minimal.

The most profitable industries in Iran are the mines, communications, banks, and construction owned by Khamenei and the IRGC. Tens of billions of dollars of these money making concerns are taken out of the country.

The Iranian Resistance NCRI and MEK have said for decades that the regime’s rule is based on:

  • Repression at home;
  • Export of terrorism and fundamentalism abroad.

The people have asked for the IGRC to be disbanded, but instead, the regime spent TV time justifying its existence which just goes to show that it is not confident of the people’s support for much longer as the growth in the resistance movement becomes more apparent.
