International pressure against Iran regime

Resolution 374 highlighted the regime’s treatment of dissidents and opponents and details several terror plots in which the regime targeted the NCRI and the (PMOI / MEK Iran).

House Resolution 374 has been presented to the government of the United States. The resolution has bipartisan support and was introduced by Rep. Tom McClintock.

The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) welcomes the news of the resolution entitled “Condemning Iranian state-sponsored terrorism and expressing support for the Iranian people’s desire for a democratic, secular, and non-nuclear republic of Iran”.

The resolution was co-sponsored by 221 members of the House, a majority, 10 of whom are committee chairs and ranking members.

Congressman McClintock made the US government aware of the resolution on 15th June. He wrote to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, emphasizing that the people of Iran want a secular, non-nuclear, and democratic state and that it is the responsibility of the United States to recognize these rights. Congressman McClintock also said that the Iranian regime must be held accountable for its “destructive behaviors”.

The resolution condemned the regime’s terrorist activities, not just those in the Middle East, but also those that are carried out worldwide. The regime’s terrorist attacks against United States citizens and officials were also brought to attention.

The resolution also highlighted the regime’s treatment of dissidents and opponents and details several terror plots in which the regime targeted the NCRI and the Mujahedin-e-Khalq (PMOI / MEK Iran). The resolution mentioned the failed terror plot in Paris in 2018 in which the regime was planning to attack the opposition during its annual Free Iran rally. Tens of thousands of Iranians from around the world attended the event, as well as hundreds of foreign diplomats, parliamentarians, and former officials.

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the NCRI, developed a 10-point plan for a future Iran several years ago. It is based on freedom, equality, respect for human rights, and peace. The resolution highlighted that the Resistance is focused on universal rights, in particular with regards to the right to vote and free elections, as well as a market economy.

Mrs. Rajavi also expressed her happiness that the Resolution is supported by a bi-partisan majority, saying that it is proof that the American people want to support the people of Iran in their journey to freedom. She said that the people of Iran “will be inspired to know that the representatives of the American people hear their voice”.

Congressman McClintock said that the timing of the resolution is significant because it comes at a time when the people of Iran and the Iranian Resistance are “steadily gaining momentum”. This, he explained, means that the opposition has become “the main target of the regime’s global terrorism”. The congressman also highlighted that dozens of so-called Iranian diplomats have been expelled or jailed by several European countries.

The people of Iran will be delighted to hear that the United States is taking a big step in recognizing their desire to forge ahead with a better future. For decades they have been ignored by the international community, but the tide is now turning.
