As the world prepares to celebrate International Women’s Day, the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) Women’s Committee has released its Annual Report 2024, offering a profound insight into the indomitable spirit of Iranian women in their quest for freedom, democracy, and equality.

Spanning the events from March 2023 to March 2024, the report paints a vivid picture of bravery, resilience, and unyielding defiance against the oppressive forces of Iran’s clerical regime.
This past year has seen Iranian women confront even harsher conditions than before, facing down a regime armed with repressive forces, draconian laws, and a deeply ingrained misogyny. Yet, against these odds, they have not only persisted but have deepened their struggle for rights and recognition. The courage of figures like Armita Geravand, who became a symbol of resistance against compulsory hijab mandates and paid the ultimate price, underscores the profound sacrifices being made.
On university campuses, female students boldly faced off against security forces, challenging the regime’s authority at considerable personal risk. Meanwhile, in Tehran, 600 women were detained for protesting in the streets, a testament to the growing unrest and the regime’s increasing desperation to maintain control.

The report highlights how bereaved mothers, mourning their fallen children, have turned their grief into a rallying cry for justice, despite facing arrest and persecution. Female political prisoners have also demonstrated remarkable resilience, with figures like Maryam Akbari Monfared and Massoumeh Senobari enduring harsh conditions and additional sentences for their unwavering resistance.

A notable aspect of the ongoing struggle is the increasing involvement of women and girls in the Resistance Units, conducting anti-repression operations and mobilizing opposition against the regime. These acts of defiance, often at great personal risk, signal a shift in the dynamics of resistance within Iran, with women not just participating but leading the charge towards a democratic and pluralistic future.

Maryam Rajavi, a prominent figure in the resistance movement, has emphasized the transformative power of women engaged in the struggle for freedom and equality. The report echoes this sentiment, showcasing the growing influence and leadership of women in the fight against the clerical dictatorship.

The Annual Report 2024 is more than just a document; it is a tribute to the fearless women of Iran who, despite facing appalling repression, continue to light the flames of uprising and hope. Their story is not just one of struggle but of the possibility of change, driven by the unbreakable will of those who dare to dream of a better future. As the world observes International Women’s Day, the report serves as a reminder of the power of women to challenge oppression and lead the way towards freedom and equality.
